At the time, Motorola Mobility CEO Rick Osterloh said that the company would use the funds to help build the next generation of Android Wear devices.
The next generation would be called Wear OS, and it would include a modular platform, a smartwatch processor, and smartwatch software.
Google was also going to invest heavily in new hardware, such as its smartwatch.
But it wasn’t until today that Google announced the purchase of Motorola.
In a statement, Google said that Google was excited to purchase Motorola Mobility for $3.4 billion.
Motorola has already received a $1.3 billion investment from the Chinese tech giant, but Google will now invest $1 billion more to build Wear OS and other smartwatch hardware.
This acquisition gives Google the largest investment in Android Wear hardware and software, as well as a solid base for the next generations of Android smartphones and wearables.
The Motorola deal, along with the $1 trillion investment in Apple Watch and Android Wear, was announced in September.

The Moto 360 has a 4.3-inch touchscreen, and Google has made the new smartwatch thinner than the original Moto 360.
This makes the Moto 360 a lot more comfortable to wear.
